3 Tips For Keeping Your Storage Unit Clean And Organized

Many people secure storage units to minimize clutter and disorganization around their homes. However, sometimes, the storage unit ends up being a cluttered and disorganized space all on its own. In these instances, it is always an excellent idea to clean and organize your storage unit. Learn some tips to help you go about this process.

1. Start Early

It is best to start the cleaning process early in. In fact, you want to start the process from the moment you secure the unit. When you first put the items in the unit, you should turn the boxes in the same direction, apply a special tape to seal them or do anything else that will help you see when the box has been opened and the items inside have been used.

After a certain period, such as 12 months, if you have not accessed a box in the unit, it is highly likely that you do not need whatever is in the box, so you may be able to get rid of it.

2. Re-Arrange the Space

Find time in your schedule every so many months that you can use to spend some time at the unit, such as a weekend afternoon. During this time, you should rearrange the items in the unit based on your needs.

For example, if you keep all your off-season clothing in the unit, move the boxes with the clothes for the upcoming season to the front of the unit. This small step is especially helpful if you need to access the unit often since it keeps the items you need in the front, which means that you are less likely to have to ravage through the unit when you need to find what you are looking for.

3. Consider a Larger Unit

You might also consider investing in a larger unit. A common mistake that people make is that they secure a unit that is too small based on their needs. The best way to avoid this mistake is to not secure a unit that is only large enough for your belongings.

Ideally, you want to secure a unit that is large enough for your belongings, but also leaves extra space for you to spread your belongings out and that leaves extra room for you to move around. The smaller the unit, the more likely you are to make a mess anytime you need to find an item.
